NEW GLOUCESTER — The 2012 Fight Back Festival will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Pineland Farms. One thousand people are expected to help the Cancer Community Center fight back against cancer.

Cancer survivors, their family and friends will take part in the festival. People can participate in a bike ride, a run or a walk in the morning. There will be a barbecue and lobster bake in the afternoon. There will be bands playing all day long, and there will be a number of games and activities for children of all ages.

The Fight Back Festival is much more than just a ride or run; it is a full festival that the entire family will enjoy. All proceeds will benefit the Cancer Community Center in South Portland. It will be the Cancer Community Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and organizers hope to raise more than $75,000.

At 5:30 a.m., staff and volunteers will arrive and set-up begins. Registration opens at 8. The 60-mile bike ride begins at 8:30. At 10:15, the 5K run kicks off. The 25-mile bike ride begins at 10:30, while the 10-mile ride begins at 11. At 11:15, the one-mile stroll and 5k walk will start.

A barbecue and lobster bake will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ongoing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be live music, activities and games for children.
