Sermon topic: ‘First or Last’

PARIS — The worship service leader for the First Universalist Church on Pine Street will be Anita White on Sunday, Sept. 23. The title of White’s sermon for the 10 a.m. service is “First or Last.”

Music is under the direction of Donna Hurd and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee and fellowship will follow the service and all are welcome. Childcare is available.

5K at Roberts Farm Preserve

NORWAY — A timed 5K will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Roberts Farm Preserve, 64 Roberts Road. $5 entry.

Winning male and female runners will get gift certificate towards breakfast at Cafe Nomad. All participants will receive a free cup of coffee at Cafe Nomad following the run.

Non-violent communication

NORWAY — Speaking Peace in a World of Conflict, a weekend workshop in nonviolent communication, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28, at the Healthy For Life Wellness Center, 9 Marston St., with Peggy Smith, founder and principle trainer of Open Communication.

The workshop is based on the work of Non-Violent Communication creator Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D. The course will show participants how to create more connection in their daily communication and how to listen with empathy.

The cost for early registration is $115. Registration after Oct. 5 is $135.

A deposit of $40 along with the registration holds your place. Deposits are nonrefundable after Oct. 12.

Chinese auction for Dempsey Ctr.

PARIS — A Chinese auction to benefit the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., auction begins at 7.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle, a $1 ticket table including two overnight getaways, gift certificates and much more.

A bake sale to benefit the center will also be offering up treats throughout the evening.
