PARIS — Maine Machine Products Company recently awarded full-tuition scholarships to three area high school seniors enrolled in the Precision Machining Technology program at Central Maine Community College.

Spencer Belanger, Poland High School; Andrew Stearns, Spruce Mountain High School, Jay; and Jesse Ripley, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, were selected for their demonstrated excellence in general academics as well as their interest in pursuing a career in the precision manufacturing trade.

Students receive a full two-year scholarship which covers the costs of tuition, books and fees and must maintain a 2.67 average to remain a participant in the program. Students work part-time while going to school and full-time during the summer months. Throughout the first year of the program, they are exposed to all areas of the shop.

Bruce Fox, production manager at MMP and student supervisor, is excited to have representation from three area high schools and that this year’s application process was the most competitive ever with 16 applicants. “This is an awesome group of kids and we are very pleased to welcome them to MMP,” he said. “I am extremely excited about the talent and enthusiasm these students bring to the shop.”

Since 1974, Maine Machine Products, has awarded over 60 scholarships to students enrolled in the Precision Machining Technology program at Central Maine Community College. The program has been so successful for MMP that approximately half of the scholarship recipients are still employed with the company today.
