‘Defending Marriage’ event Oct. 28

AUBURN — “Defending Marriage in the Public Square” events are being held throughout the Diocese of Portland in September and October. The diocese is sponsoring a series of state-wide meetings built around Bishop Richard Malone’s pastoral letter on marriage, which was released in March. The pastoral letter, “Marriage: Yesterday… Today… Always,” can be found at beautyofmarriage.org.

The intention of these events is to teach the faithful about the gift of marriage and the need to embrace and preserve it. All events are open to the public. Each will include a talk by a guest speaker and a question and answer panel discussion.

Locally, a meeting will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at noon at St. Philip, 2365 Turner Road, Auburn.

“I invite everyone to come and learn why marriage, the union of a man and a woman, is the foundation of the family and the best place for children to be loved, cared for, educated and taught to be productive, creative, upright and responsible citizens,” said Bishop Malone.
