LEWISTON — Friday, Sept. 28, will mark the fifth edition of Art Walk Lewiston Auburn, when multiple venues along downtown Lisbon Street, including vacant buildings, offer an array of art exhibits.

Steve Bradford, a Maine native, is featured artist for this month’s Art Walk, which will begin at 5 p.m. and continue to 8:30 p.m. 

Other Art Walk-related events include a presentation by soldier poet Brian Turner at 6 p.m. at Callahan Hall, Lewiston Public Library; Aquila Theatre Company in “Ancient Greeks/ Modern Lives: Poetry-Drama-Dialogue” at 7:30 p.m., also at Callahan Hall; a free BatesDowntown concert from 5 to 6 p.m. at 22 Park St.; and an artists reception, featuring the Boys and Girls Club annual photo contest, at 5 p.m. at the Community Gallery at L/A Arts, 221 Lisbon St. 

Bradford studied printmaking at the University of Southern Maine and, after moving to Sacramento, Calif., took up assemblage, the art of making two- or three-dimensional pieces by putting together found objects. He returned to Portland in 2002 and moved to Lisbon Falls in 2009.

In his work, Bradford likes to take common, everyday items and put them together in ways that create a visual story. His interest in miniature worlds — aquariums, model train layouts, dollhouses — is reflected in his artwork. He juxtaposes unrelated items in a setting where familiar shapes take on new meaning. He recently began expanding on that theme by combining photography with assemblage.

Influences on his work range from the simplicity of peasant or “outsider” art to the filigree and rococo decoration of southern Mexican cathedrals.

Bradford’s assemblage art will be displayed at the Lamey Wellehan gallery, 118 Lisbon St.
