AUGUSTA (AP) — Police have charged a Maine man accused of withholding care and nourishment from his 2-month-old daughter with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

An indictment charging 33-year-old Jedediah Watson was unsealed this week. The charges stem from alleged abuse between Sept. 8 and Nov. 7 of 2011, and child welfare agents intervened.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the indictment was unsealed upon Watson’s arrest on Tuesday.

Watson was arraigned Wednesday in Waterville District Court, and remained Thursday in Kennebec County Jail. Bail was set at $1,000 cash or $10,000 in property. The jail had no paperwork indicating if he’d retained a lawyer.
