PORTLAND — Support Maine children in need through the second annual Autumn Orchard Ride benefiting the children of Camp Susan Curtis. Beginning at L.L. Bean’s flagship store in Freeport on Saturday, Sept. 29, the ride travels some of Maine’s most beautiful roads, enjoying the autumn foliage and incorporating stops at local orchards along the way.

Choose from three ride distances: 50 miles, 20 miles and a “Flexible Family Ride” up to three miles. For start times, registration costs and to register, go to BikeReg.com and search for “Autumn Orchard Ride.”

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. there will be free, open-to-the-public family activities in L.L. Bean’s Discovery Park including a kid’s bicycle obstacle course, with bikes and helmets provided by L.L. Bean, face painting, a mini-camp complete with tents for kids to explore, a campfire and camp songs, plus plenty of apples from participating local orchards. Binga’s Wingas will provide a barbecue meal for a $5 donation to the programs of Camp Susan Curtis. Riders eat free.
