ST. GEORGE — William B. Booker, 85, of Rangeley, passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 28, 1927, in Boston, Mass. He grew up in Bangor, and attended local schools. During his high school years, he left school and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After returning home from the service, he finished his high school education and was a graduate of John Bapst High School. He then went on to Husson College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in education and then on to the University of Maine, where he received his master’s degree and also completed postmasters work.

Upon finishing his education, he began his teaching career. He was a teacher in Thomaston, Fairfield, Brewer, and lastly at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School on Cape Cod, Mass., until retiring.

Along with teaching, he was also an assistant coach of the varsity basketball team at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School for many years.

He was a registered Master Maine Guide for more than 60 years. He was a fly fishing guide at Johns Pond Camps, King and Bartlett Camps, and Grants Camps.

He was also an avid skier and was a member of the Professional Ski Instructors Association. He was a professional ski instructor at Saddleback Mountain, skiing and instructing until 2011, when his health began to fail. He also was a member of the Rangeley Region Guides and Sportsmen Association for many years.

He loved to be outdoors, teaching, and spending time with friends. He was an avid hunter, and loved canoeing and boating.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Inara M. Booker of Rangeley; daughters, Ingrid Booker Mroz and her husband, William, of Hartland, Vt., and Krista M. Booker of South Dennis, Mass.; and sister-in-law, Margaret Phillips of St. George.

He was predeceased by a son, William E. Booker
