Candidates forum on women’s issues

PORTLAND — The USM Women and Gender Studies program will host the U.S. Senate Candidates’ Forum on Issues Affecting Women and Girls on Thursday, Oct. 4, in USM’s Hannaford Lecture Hall, Abromson Center, 88 Bedford St. A reception begins at 6 p.m., followed by the forum at 7. The event is free and open to the public.

Senate candidates Danny Dalton, Cynthia Dill, Andrew Dodge, Angus King, Charles Summers and Stephen Woods will address a wide range of issues that affect Maine women and girls, including economic security, freedom from violence, healthcare and civil rights.

Co-sponsors include the Maine Women’s Policy Center; USM Women and Gender Studies; AARP; American Association of University Women of Maine; Family Planning Association of Maine; Maine Children’s Alliance; and the National Council of Jewish Women Southern Maine.

Maine Media Women meeting

DAMARISCOTTA — Maine Media Women’s October meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Mobius Center, 319 Main St., Business Route 1.

Ezekiel Callanan, a lawyer with the firm of Opticliff ESQ of Portland, will share his insights and best practices for starting a business on the right foot. He will discuss entity formation, protection of limited liability and copyright and trademark law.
