As a parent of a college student, I am appreciative of the efforts of President Barack Obama and Rep. Mike Michaud relating to the funding of higher education and focusing on the future of young people.

The Credit Card Act of 2009 created more restrictions for young people to apply for credit cards, which has prevented young people from having credit card debt on top of school loans.

Rep. Mike Michaud voted for the Health and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, which made applying for Stafford loans more efficient, as loan processing now goes through colleges and not through financial institutions. Money paid to banks for processing the loans are now used to fund Pell Grants.

The Affordable Health Care Act benefits young people as they will be covered under their parents’ health insurance until age 26.

President Obama and Congressman Michaud care about young people and I appreciate that.
