LIVERMORE FALLS — The RSU 73 School Board will soon have two student representatives to help provide a student perspective on topics that come under discussion.
Spruce Mountain High School South Principal Steve Leunig asked about the status of appointing one student from the south campus and a second from the north campus when the board met last week.
Board Chairwoman Denise Rodzen said Leunig and north campus Principal Gilbert Eaton can go ahead with the process for electing the student members.
Students from each campus will be elected by the student body. The term will be for two years.
Prior to taking a seat on the board, those young people elected will be interviewed by the board.
“It will be like (students) running for Student Council and other (elective offices),” Rodzen said.
In other matters at the meeting, the board approved the purchase of a 90-passenger Blue Bird school bus from O’Connor of Augusta at a cost of $93,939. The district tries to replace one bus each year so that the number of new buses that must be replaced won’t become a budget burden in any one year.
Several teaching and support staff positions were also filled, including Donna Kenney as the adult education foreign language/English as a second language teacher, Michelle Guillaume as adult education GED instructor, Linda Davis as adult education technology instructor and Chlorissa Blood as educational technician at Livermore Elementary School.
The resignation of special education educational technician Cynthia Soucy was accepted.
