FARMINGTON — Registrations are now open for Gold LEAF Senior College fall and winter term classes and activities, which run from Oct. 19 to March 8. The classes are designed for people age 50 or older who are interested in lifelong learning opportunities and socializing with people who have similar interests.
The fall/winter term includes classroom sessions such as astronomy, poetry and Wabanaki history; computer labs on Skype and digital photo storage; outdoor activities; crafts; study groups; field trips; and an overnight trip to Portland. The full list of course offerings is on the web at goldleaf.wikispaces.com.
A kick off of Gold LEAF’s fall/winter term will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the University of Maine at Farmington Olsen Student Center, North Dining Hall, 111 South St. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Learn more about Gold LEAF Senior College at the fall/winter kick off, meet the course presenters, socialize with some of the current members, become a member and sign up for classes. However, because some classes fill up early, everyone is encouraged to register for classes as soon as possible, rather than waiting until the kick-off event on Oct. 17.
Dues for new members, joining for the first time during the fall/winter term, are pro-rated at $20. Annual membership dues are $30 for the year beginning July 1. Most courses have nominal fees ranging from $3 to $10, depending on the length, and this term two classes are free to members.
There are no tests, homework or educational requirements to be a part of Gold LEAF (which stands for Lifelong Education At Farmington). Gold LEAF is a nonprofit, member-run organization sponsored by the University of Maine at Farmington.
