EAST WILTON — Robert D. Taylor, 76, a resident of Blue Spruce Road, East Wilton, died late Friday evening, Sept. 28, peacefully at his home, as he wanted, surrounded by his loving family and with his dog, Friday.

He was born May 5, 1936, in Boston, Mass., the son of Richard and Olive Mitchell Taylor. He attended school in Massachusetts and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956.

On Oct. 24, 1964, he married Margaret “Peggy” Travers. They raised four sons in Hopkinton, Mass., prior to moving the family to Maine in 1985. Peggy passed away Nov. 6, 2010.

Bob worked as a printer at AB Dick, Boston University, Knowlton & McLeary and Foster Manufacturing. He enjoyed spending time at his Civil War era home with his family and friends, always employing an open door. He and Peggy spent countless hours tending to the beautiful gardens and yards that brought them great pride and joy.

An avid fly fisherman and hunter, he passed a passion for the outdoors onto his children. Many family and friends were bestowed with the restored antique bamboo fly rods that Bob handcrafted. Bob was an active supporter of Boy Scouts and athletic boosters in Hopkinton, Mass., and he also loved the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his loving sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Julie Taylor of Jay, Tim and Jane Taylor of Scarborough, Brian and Jessica Taylor of Poland, and Rob and Christy Hmieleski of Stanford, Ky.; his nine cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Hutchinson Halcomb, Christopher Hmieleski, Erik Taylor, Emily Taylor, Kaitlyn Hmieleski, Ethan Taylor, Ruby Taylor, Maya Taylor and Molly Taylor; his great-grandson, Ian Halcomb; and his brother, Richard Taylor of Medfield, Mass.
