LEWISTON — On Thursday, Oct. 4, the L/A Film Forum will present the independent film “Scotland, PA,” a comedy-drama based on Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.”
Shakespeare’s tragedy, originally set in Dunsinane Castle in 11th century Scotland, is reworked as a dark comedy set in 1975. The film, written and directed by Billy Morrissette, is centered around Duncan’s Cafe, a fast-food restaurant in the small town of Scotland, Pa.
The 2001 U.S. film starring James LeGros, Maura Tierney and Christopher Walken will be shown at 6 p.m. in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
A facilitated discussion, moderated by film studies scholar Jessica Charle of Portland, will follow the screening.
The next L/A Film Forum screening on Thursday, Nov. 1, will feature “Question One: the Battle for Same Sex Marriage,” a documentary on the 2009 Maine gay marriage referendum campaign. The series will continue on the first Thursday of each month through May.
The L/A Film Forum is a partnership of the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries and the Lewiston Auburn Film Festival.
All L/A Film Forum events are free and open to adults.
