LEWISTON — The Franco-American Heritage Center will hold its monthly La Rencontre luncheon on Friday, Oct. 5, in the Franco Center’s Heritage Hall, 46 Cedar St. The luncheon begins at 11:30 and is $7.

The lunch will be a ham dinner. The featured entertainment will be a musical presentation by vocalist Larry Gowell. Also, the Franco Center will be screening a short film on the history of the Sisters of Charity.

RSVPs can be made by calling Claudette at 786-6936 or the Franco Center at 783-1585.

Gowell will be making his Franco Center debut, performing a program of classic American song from Broadway, inspirational and pop music genres. Once a professional athlete playing for the likes of the New York Yankees, Gowell now spends his days as a semi-professional musician and, when time permits, insurance salesman and church choir member. At La Rencontre, three of Gowell’s albums will be available for donation. Half of the proceeds from the sales of “Music For The Soul,” “Movie Scores & Broadway Hits” and “Christmas Classics” will go directly to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Gowell said, “I just got started and I have already raised $255 dollars in two public concerts so far. A lot of hungry people all around us need our help.”

The Franco Center presents La Rencontre as a way to reconnect with, entertain and enjoy our extended Franco-American family in the area. Meals and stories are shared, friends are reunited and memories are made. All are welcome.

Each event includes a fully catered luncheon, followed by a performance, both of which change every month, and runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Guests are strongly encouraged to speak in French. If English is spoken, you may be asked to make a small donation, all in good fun.
