FARMINGTON — The Sweatt-Winter Child Care and Early Education Center on the University of Maine at Farmington campus has been notified by the National Association for the Education of Young Children that its early childhood program has once again been awarded full NAEYC accreditation.

“We are thrilled to again receive national recognition for the quality of our program,” said Edna Montague, center director. “Only about 10 percent of children’s centers nationally receive NAEYC accreditation and that really says a lot about Sweatt-Winter’s commitment to provide the best child care experience possible.”

In celebration, Sweatt-Winter will hold a free open house at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4. The program is located in University of Maine at Farmington’s Ricker Addition. Hours are 7 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

“We are excited about celebrating this milestone with our families, friends, staff, and of course, our students,” said Montague. “Many of our current student’s parents and other family members came to Sweatt-Winter when they were children. It really shows what a valuable asset a quality child care program can be to a community.”
