WILTON — Wilton Day Extension Group meet on Sept 13 at St. Luke’s Church. Thirteen members were present, plus one new member.
The thought for the day was “It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”
Safety and health tips were shared. Use an egg for a burn by beating the egg and putting it on the burned spot; it will take out the sting and will not leave a scar. Hang a gallon bag half filled with water and a penny to attract flies. Cover a bowl of pineapple or other fruit with plastic wrap and poke small holes in the plastic; fruit flies will go in but will not be able to get out.
New business included talk about the group’s next meetings: Oct. 11, national parks; Nov. 11, decorations for the tree of light; and Dec. 13, the Christmas party.
An election of officers was held. Elected were Hazel Flagg, president; Jean Rand, vice president; Becky Tyler, secretary; Connie Reynolds, treasurer; Anne Ibarguren, co-treasurer; Anne Storey, advisory board; Marcella Farrington, membership; Becky Tyler, publicity; Hazel Flagg, open house; Becky Tyler and Anne Storey, train the trainer; Becky Tyler, Betty Douglas, Anne Storey, Olive Toothaker, Lillian Miller and Jean Rand, holiday craft fair; and Becky Tyler, community service.
Meeting programs were also planned for the year: Jan. 10, Matter of Balance; Feb. 14, History of Valentine’s Day and Presidents; March 14, Computers; April 9, Birds; May 9, Nova Scotia; June 13, Outing; Sept. 12, Planning Meeting; Oct. 10, Gluten Free Cooking; Nov. 14, Decoration for tree of lights; Dec. 12, Christmas Party.
The mystery gift was won by Lillian Miller.
For community service projects, 12 rolls of toilet paper were brought to the meeting for the food pantry; next month members will be bringing in canned pumpkin or evaporated milk.
