LIVERMORE FALLS — Planning Board members will hold a second public hearing on a site plan review application on Wednesday for a pet crematory at 18 Brookside Ave.
Journeys End, a pet crematory proposed by Michelle Pomeroy and Matthew Perkins at their residence, was approved by the Planning Board on May 30.
Neighbors’ submitted an administrative appeal on procedure. The Board of Appeals agreed an administrative error was made by not sending certified letters notifying abutters of the May public hearing. The appeals board remanded the application back to the Planning Board in August.
The Planning Board requested that the applicants submit another application last month and to follow the proper notification process to abutters.
The new public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Town Office.
During the initial hearing neighbors submitted a petition opposing the proposed business.
Journeys End applicant Michelle Pomeroy said in May the business would be a daytime-only operation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The machine for the business she and Matthew Perkins would run is already in operation in Norway and licensed by the state Department of Environmental Protection, she said previously. Perkins said he would be trained and state licensed to run the machine.
The maximum weight of a carcass of a dog to be cremated would be 200 pounds, Pomeroy said. There would be no storage of animal bodies, she said.
The couple would use their own vehicles to transport dead animals to their property to eliminate any traffic issues. Pomeroy also said they would have to document the operation of the incinerator for state purposes and have yearly inspections.
The machine would also have to be re-licensed by the state if relocated for the new business, Code Enforcement Officer James Butler Jr. said during the first hearing.
Planning Board members approved the application in May stating there was no criteria in the town’s Site Plan Review Ordinance to reject the application for the business.
