LEWISTON — On Sunday, Oct. 14, the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus will show the movie “For  Greater Glory,” based on the history of men, women and children fighting for religious freedom in Mexico.

There is no admission charge for the R-rated film to be shown at 1 p.m.in the Holy Cross church hall. (No one under 16 will be admitted without parent or adult guardian.)

In the action epic an impassioned group of men, women and children decide to risk it all for family, faith and the future of their country. The film’s drama unfolds against the long-hidden, true story of the 1920s Cristero War.

Academy Award nominee Andy Garcia portrays General Gorostieta, the retired military man who at first thinks he has nothing personal at stake as he and his wife (Golden Globe nominee Eva Longoria) watch Mexico fall into a violent civil war.

Gorostieta becomes the resistance’s most inspiring and self-sacrificing leader, transforming a rag-tag band of rebels into a heroic force to be reckoned with. While facing impossible odds against a powerful and ruthless government, he meets youthful idealists, feisty renegades and a teen named Jose who reveals to him how courage and belief are forged even when justice seems lost.
