LEWISTON — Jo-an Lantz, executive vice president of Geiger, announced recently that Geiger has further reinforced their commitment to sustainability by participating in the UPS carbon neutral program.

Geiger is the first in the promotional industry in North America to participate in a contractual carbon neutral program for its UPS shipments. This vital initiative is an environmentally-responsible program where Geiger offsets the carbon impact of its UPS shipments to customers.

Through the program, UPS calculates carbon emissions for UPS shipments leaving the Geiger facility, then purchases and retires offsets equaling that amount. Offset projects include reforestation, renewable energy (wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric), methane and landfill gas destruction, wastewater treatment and destruction of industrial pollutants. For added credibility, these projects are carefully chosen by UPS to ensure that they are high-quality, meeting international standards. UPS’s carbon calculation methodology and processes are certified by The CarbonNeutral Company and verified by Societe’ Generale de Surveillance.
