Overset Pond, Mountain hike

GREENWOOD — The Mahoosuc Land Trust fall hike around Overset Pond and over Overset Mountain is on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m.

The hike is a two-mile hiking loop, after a one mile-walk on a logging road. Transportation to the hiking loop will be available. Parking is along Willis Mills Road, about 100 yards after turning off Patch Mountain Road in Greenwood.

Historical Society monthly meeting

PARIS — On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Paris Cape Historical Society members and friends will hold their monthly meeting at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill at 7 p.m.

There will be no business meeting or refreshments. Instead, Donald Adamson, the keeper of the clock and Revere bell, will present a video and narration of the history, maintenance and operation of the clock and bell. The video was made by Sidney Gordon, an expert in the field of photography and old pictures.

Community Activities Coalition

BRIDGTON — A first meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Bridgton Community Center for everyone over 50 who wants to enlarge their social circles and enjoy a variety of arts, culture and outdoor activities.

Western Maine offers a vast array of entertainment from concerts, theater, seasonal and holiday festivals, skiing, bowling and restaurants.

The group could also plan sing-alongs, walking tours, Sunday brunches, community service, cards and games, and other free and/or low cost fun.

Bring ideas and a wish list. Time will be spent at the first meeting sharing ideas and what’s happening in the area, including Portland, and making plans to get together.

‘Famous’ chicken pie supper

BOLSTERS MILLS — The Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church will hold its last “Famous” Chicken Pie Supper of the season Saturday, Oct. 20, at the church in Bolsters Mills Village. There will be seatings at 5 and 6 p.m., with a third to follow at 7 if needed.

The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Dinner includes chicken pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, rolls, homemade dessert and beverage and is served family style.

Although accommodations will be made to the extent possible so as to not turn anyone away, it is recommended that reservations be made the morning of the supper between 9 a.m. and noon. Call 583-9024 during those hours for confirmation. Do not leave a message.

The church is handicap accessible and air conditioned.

Buckfield Masons hold open house

BUCKFIELD — There will be an open house at the Buckfield Masonic Hall, 4 High St., on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to visit, ask questions, tour the Lodge building and have a snack.

Texas hold ’em at Lions Club

HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will hold a Texas hold’em tournament from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road.

Space is limited to 100 players. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds will be used to provide community services.

Chinese/ticket auction Oct. 20

LOCKE MILLS — A Chinese/Ticket Auction will be held at the Locke Mills Legion Hall on Gore Road on Saturday, Oct. 20.

More than 300 items, including gift certificates, toys, books, great gifts and homemade baked goods will be available. Doors open at 4 p.m. and auction starts at 6.

A dinner of chicken a’ la king or baked beans will be served starting at 4, as well as lots of desserts. This is a benefit for the Telstar Alumni Association. For information call Sally at 875-3335.

Mahoosuc Land Trust annual meeting

BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust’s 23rd Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Ordway Living Room at Gould Academy.

Following the business portion of the meeting, Tom Wessels, noted ecologist and author, will be the featured speaker. His presentation will be on “Reading the Forested Landscape,” based on his well-known book, “Reading the Forested Landscape, A Natural History of New England.”

The meeting is open to the public. Memberships and membership renewals are available at the meeting. A $5 donation is requested from those attending who are not Land Trust members.

Hebron School harvest supper

HEBRON — Hebron Station School will be having a benefit Harvest Supper on Friday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the school, 884 Station Road. Admission will be $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.

The menu will be spaghetti with sauces, salad, bread and pies. Students, staff and parents are volunteering to hold this annual event. Raffle items will be available.

The supper is a fundraiser for the Hebron Station School Scholarship fund.

A scholarship is awarded at Class Night to a graduating senior from OHCHS who is a resident of Hebron and has attended the elementary school. All proceeds from the supper will go towards the scholarship fund.

Longaberger Bingo benefits pets

NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care Longaberger Bingo will take place Sunday, Oct. 28, at Norway Legion Hall, Main Street. Doors open at 11 a.m., bingo starts at 12:30 p.m.

Hospice volunteers training starts

BRIDGTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has a growing need for hospice volunteers in the Bridgton and Oxford Hills areas who have a special interest in visiting patients in their homes and in nursing homes.

The Hospice Volunteer six-session training begins Oct. 29 at Bridgton Hospital. Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

There is no cost to participate in any of the trainings offered.

Good balance topic for seniors
