100 years ago, 1912
Phillipe Landry of Maple Street, Lewiston, was injured by being pinned under a mass of lumber while at work on the foundation of the Shapiro Block on Broad Street in Auburn, Wednesday afternoon. A form of wood had been erected for the cement walls and in some unknown way the form fell over. No bones were broken, but the extent of the man’s injuries can not be known at this time. He was unable to continue his work and went to his home.

50 years ago, 1962
The door at one Lewiston home has become the center of attraction since the date 1803 has been inscribed on it. At the John Sutton home, 237 Pleasant St., a wooden-slab door which is located just inside the cellar bulkhead bears the signature of Phillip I. Monroe. In addition to the name and date, also inscribed on the door are the words: “Lewiston, Massachusetts, Territory of Maine.”

25 years ago, 1987
Auburn City Councilors on Monday will be asked to authorize City Manager Paula R. Valente to sign an agreement with the Town of Lisbon for solid-waste disposal over the next three years. The agreement would replace a 2-year pact made by the town with Auburn in 1979 for disposing of waste at the city’s waste-recovery plant for $8.50 per ton.
