1924 – 2012

LEWISTON — Gaston “Gus” L. Plourde, 88, formerly of 378 Foster Road, Auburn, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, at d’Youville Pavilion.

Born in Lisbon Falls on Aug. 20, 1924, he was the son of August and Delima Ouellette Plourde. Educated in local schools, he married the former Irene M. Bisson on Oct. 12, 1946, at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.

He worked at the Portland shipyard during World War II, and later worked as a weaver in the area textile industry for many years. He also worked in local shoe shops, and his final job before retiring was as a manager at Lisa’s Pizza in Old Orchard Beach.

After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed wintering in Riverview, Fla., for 17 years. He was known for his peanut butter fudge. He enjoyed playing cards, county fairs, especially Fryeburg Fair, and spending time at the horse races with his family.

A member of Sacred Heart Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, he is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Irene of Lewiston; two sons, Laurier and wife, Linda Morin, of Saco, Roland and wife, Carol, of Poland; a daughter, Jeannine and husband, Robert Hobson, of Dudley, Mass.; a sister, Georgette Gosselin of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Lisa Boisvert, Stephanie Recchia, Joshua Kidder, Celeste Kidder, Carrie Norton and Chelsea Mackos; and great-grandsons, Brandan Mills and Lorenzo Recchia; great-granddaughters, Eleanor and Charlotte Dargelis.

He was predeceased by a brother, August; and three sisters, Rose Perrier, Blandine Perrier and Geralda Plourde.
