HAMPTON, N.H. — Florence L. Croteau, 95, of Hampton, N.H., formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, at her granddaughter’s home.
She was born in Auburn, Nov. 21, 1916, daughter of the late Cleophase and Leonie Malo Lafontaine. She was educated in Auburn schools and was married to Leonard Croteau Sept. 7, 1936. He predeceased her Nov. 5, 1981.
During World War II she was employed at the Bath shipyard as a welder and was one of Rosie’s Riveters. Prior to her retirement she was employed in local shoe shops. Florence was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed ballroom dancing and knitting for her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Theresa Cyr of Auburn; six grandchildren, Tina Stevens of Auburn, Tammy Garnier and her fiance, and Florence’s caregiver, Wendy Berntsen of Hampton, N.H., Timothy Garnier of Sabattus, Donald Cyr of Auburn, Gregory Cyr and fiancee, Michelle of Augusta and Cynthia Leavitt and husband, Rodney of Auburn; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Madeleine Garnier; three sisters and six brothers.
