BRUNSWICK — The Rev. Harold L. Allen, 87, of Topsham, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1925, in Lisbon Falls, a son of Raymond and Florence (Harding) Allen. He grew up in the Lisbon Falls area, attended Lisbon Falls schools and was a graduate of Lisbon Falls High School, Class of 1943. After high school, Harold joined the Army and served during World War II. In 1944, he married Mildred Clark and they started a family.

Shortly after that, Harold graduated from Gordon College and Gordon Divinity School in Massachusetts. Harold was a devoted pastor who served several churches, including Corliss St. Baptist Church in Bath, Poultney Baptist Church, Georgia Plain Baptist Church and North Springfield Baptist Church, all in Vermont. After serving those churches, he retired in 1990.

Harold will be remembered for his love of woodworking, including whittling and carving, as well as brain teaser puzzles and stamp collecting. Most of all, his most important priority in life was serving people. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mildred (Clark) Allen of Topsham; his four children, Patricia Dolphin of Florida, Priscilla McDonald and her husband, Dan of Vermont, Joyce May and her husband, Gene of Topsham and Neal Allen and his wife, Tracy of New York. He also leaves behind a sister, Marion Gardiner of Sabattus; as well as seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Harold was predeceased by two children, James and Jane; one sister, Mabel; and four brothers, Carl, Wesley, Willis and Stanley.
