AUBURN — Sr. Marguerite Gregoire, OP, died Oct. 20, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.
Sr. Marguerite Gregoire, daughter of Alphonse and Virginie (Gagne) Gregoire, was born in Lewiston, April 12, 1922.
After completing her secondary education, she joined the Dominican Sisters of the Roman Congregation in October 1944 for her initial formation in Valleyfield, Canada. She made her final vows in Lewiston in 1950. Sr. Marguerite taught all of her life in Lewiston and Sabattus; in Staten Island, N.Y.; Davenport and Iowa City, Iowa; Beloit, Wis. She served as principal, librarian assistant and resource room teacher. She retired from teaching and returned to Maine in 1999.
Sr. Marguerite was very dedicated to her religious community, which she served in different roles, both on the local and provincial level, as prioress, local treasurer, provincial councilor and on the provincial finance committee. Sr. Marguerite was a member of the Sabattus community.
She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, Rosario, Armand, Alicia Charest, Aurore Charest, Antoinette Bourque and Isabelle Cyr. Her gentle and loving presence will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews and her religious community.
