The only question is whether the dose was merely Dirigo-sized or one fit for the entire Western Class C playoff field.

Oak Hill dismantled Dirigo, 33-0, in a showdown that wasn’t. The Raiders dominated the chains, the clock, the tempo, the physical tone and any other category that might be fit for discussion.

“Everyone was just ready to play,” said Oak Hill defensive lineman Chris Harlow, who recovered a fumble to lead a Raiders defense that silenced the Cougars to 65 total yards and three first downs. “We all came out fired up and adjusted to everything they did. We just came full-bore.”

Led by Alex Mace (23 carries, 113 yards) and Kyle Flaherty (13 for 107), the Raiders (7-1) ran more than twice as many plays as the Cougars (6-2).

Mace and quarterback Parker Asselin each rushed for two touchdowns.

By virtue of a tiebreaker, Oak Hill lost out to Winslow for the top seed in the Western Class C playoffs and will host Lisbon next Saturday. Dirigo dropped a notch behind Oak Hill to No. 3 and will be at home against Old Orchard Beach.

“They pounded us. They knew exactly what we were doing on offense and shut us down,” Dirigo coach Dave Crutchfield said. “Then ran the same play over and over and over. They were just very disciplined. They came out in double wing and shoved it down our throats.”

Even when the Raiders failed to score in the first quarter, all signs pointed their way. Dirigo ran three plays for five yards in that span.

Asselin capped Oak Hill’s second time-gobbling drive of the half with the first of his two scoring sneaks at the 11:27 mark of the second quarter.

Brandon Potvin (13 carries, 61 yards) dragged two would-be tacklers up the gut for 23 to set up Asselin’s second score.

Later, it was Flaherty flying 45 yards before getting dragged down at the 2. Mace finished the job from a yard out with 11 seconds left in the half for a 19-0 lead.

“I wouldn’t trade any of my line for any of theirs. I trust every guy next to me,” Oak Hill senior Mike Saunders said.

Oak Hill’s line enjoyed the surge on the other side, as well. The Raiders limited explosive Spencer Trenoweth to nine carries for 18 yards. Brett Whittemore was 4-for-11 through the air.

“They’ve got one of the most dynamic players (Trenoweth) in the conference. Their whole team is outstanding,” Oak Hill coach Stacen Doucette said. “Our kids played very well.”

Dirigo’s deepest drive reached the Oak Hill 28. It ended with a delay-of-game penalty on fourth-and-2, followed by a Mace interception.

Aaron Clark and Mace had fourth-quarter TD rushes for the Raiders.

“I’ve got a group of kids that thinks they can play tiddlywinks and win games,” Crutchfield said. “They’ve got to buckle down at practice. They surprise me sometimes because they’re light-hearted. They’re fun kids. I want them to have fun, but I also want them to learn. This week wasn’t a good week of practice.”
