LEWISTON — YWCA of Central Maine welcomes Allison Cummings Melangton, CEO of 2012 Super Bowl Host Committee and Auburn native, to help launch its new initiative, Aspiring Girls: Be Bold, Be Strong, Be Brave… Be YOU!
On Monday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., Melangton will deliver a keynote address to members of the public. Melangton will talk about what it means to set professional goals and, through hard work and perseverance, meet those goals.
Melangton grew up aspiring to be a gymnast and went to Colorado College to study Sports Administration. After school, she worked for USA Gymnastics before eventually joining Indiana Sports Corporation as its senior vice president of events and most recently as its president.
Melangton has led a very successful career in directing national and international events. She has received four Emmy Awards for her work. Her most recent successes include serving as CEO of the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis as well as associate producer of the NBC gymnastics broadcast at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
Melangton will share stories of defying gender stereotypes and becoming the CEO of the 2012 Super Bowl, widely regarded as the most engaging and successfully organized Super Bowl in history. Find out about the hand-knit blue and white scarfs that each of the 8,000 volunteers wore, some of which were knit right at the YWCA of Central Maine.
The event is free and open to the public and any inspiring young person is especially encouraged to attend. Afterward, hear about the YWCA’s new Aspiring Girls initiative and its programs aimed at giving girls the courage to follow their dreams. Light refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet Melangton afterward.
The YWCA of Central Maine is at 130 East Ave. For further information on the event or Aspiring Girls, call the YWCA at 795-4050.
