FARMINGTON — A survey asking people what they would like to see in a new RSU 9 superintendent is online.

The RSU 9 Administrator Evaluation Committee, a subcommittee of the Board of Directors, is in charge of searching for a new superintendent, and it wants to know what people want in that person.

Superintendent Mike Cormier is retiring at the end of the school year after 20 years of service to the district. The position is posted. The successful candidate would start July 1, 2013.

School board members are holding meetings with staff around the district to get input on what they would like to see in a superintendent. They also plan a public session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Mt. Blue High School library or cafeteria. It will be followed by a regular school board meeting.

Board members will also meet with students in the upper grades to hear what they have to say.

Director Claire Andrews said the committee needs to get the information to make a more informed decision.

The anonymous survey includes 13 attributes or qualifications, which the school board views as essential for an effective superintendent.

People are asked to rank the four they consider of highest priority. The rankings are from most important down to least important.

Among the categories to choose from are communication, community relations, leadership, organizational management, school financing/budgeting, personnel management, school improvement, staff development and supervisor/evaluation.

Surveys need to be filled out by Nov. 30.

To access the survey online, the website address is http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9ZSQDYH. The address is case-sensitive.

Hard copies will also be available in school buildings and the Central Office. There will be a link on the district’s website mtbluersd.org next week. They will also be due by Nov. 30.

The hard copies can be mailed to Search Committee at the MBRSD Central Office, 115 Learning Lane, Farmington, ME 04938.

Directors are also looking for people interested in serving on interview committees. People are asked to write two or three lines about why they want to be on the committee and include their contact information.

Those may be emailed to dgazette@mtbluersd.org or sent to the Mt. Blue Regional School District Office at the address listed above.
