AUBURN — Community Little Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming production of the comedy “God of Carnage” on Sunday and Monday, Nov. 4-5, at Great Falls Performing Art Center.

The show by Yasmina Reza with translation by Christopher Hampton won three Tony Awards in 2009 and the Lawrence Olivier Award. It will be staged Feb. 8-17, with Dick Rosenberg as director.

In  “God of Carnage,” two couples, the Novaks and the Raleighs, meet in the Novak living room to discuss a recent fight between their two 11-year-old sons, Henry Novak and Benjamin Raleigh. (The children are not in the play.)

Young Benjamin has struck Henry with a stick, knocking out two teeth, injuring a nerve to the right incisor and causing his upper lip to swell. The mood is serious, friendly and tolerant in the beginning, but quickly disintegrates into pettiness and gutter language as the adults regress to their juvenile ways. The result is quick, explosive, comedic drama.

There are four roles, two women and two men, all in their 40s. Veronica Novak, a writer who sees herself as the queen of social conscience and common courtesy, but really is judgmental and domineering. Her husband, Michael, is a good-natured hardware salesman, eager to maintain peace, but slowly, his uncouth nature emerges.

Annette Raleigh sees herself as elite and superior, but her self-confidence has been eroded by her husband’s preoccupation with work. Alan, her husband, is an openly rude corporate lawyer whose cell phone calls predominate and interrupt the conversations between the two couples.

Auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. both days at the art center, 30 Academy St.
