Both Auburn and Poland have benefited from John Cleveland’s governmental service as councilor, mayor and state senator, and then as the director of the Maine Rural Development Authority. He also runs his own business, Community Dynamics Corp., and has helped Maine companies grow and create jobs.

His opponent, Lois Snowe-Mello, while a good person, has consistently voted to bring pollution to Maine, and was given a very low score by the Maine Conservation voters. One of her more infamous votes was in support of allowing BPA to be used in baby bottles, even though it was made out of state and is considered a carcinogen, and banned in Europe and Canada.

Given the choice, for knowledgeable government and economic development, or pollution, I will vote for John Cleveland this election.

Jim Wellehan, Auburn

Editor’s note: Although an early opponent of the BPA ban, following months of debate Lois Snowe-Mello did vote with the unanimous majority in the final Senate action to impose a ban on BPA.
