PARIS — A Canton man remained in Oxford County Jail on Tuesday after his arrest Saturday morning on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
Dana Shane McKeen, 27, of 217 Turner St., is being held on $400 cash bail in the case of a burglary at a Rumford home.
According to a report by officer Brad Gallant of the Rumford Police Department, a homeowner on Route 108 called police just before 6 a.m. Saturday and said he’d startled a burglar, who jumped out his window with a wallet, jewelry, prescription medicine, cigarettes and a jar of coins.
Gallant, along with Cpl. Lawrence Winson and officer Camron Barrieau searched the area for the suspect. McKeen was found hiding under the porch of a house across the street, the report said.
Police dragged McKeen out. Gallant wrote that McKeen was “highly intoxicated” and police found items reported stolen from the house. Other items were found on the ground outside, and the homeowner identified McKeen as the man who was in his house.
Gallant wrote that he also found marijuana and a digital scale in McKeen’s pocket. In addition to his criminal charges, Gallant gave McKeen a civil summons for sale or use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and walking on a railroad track.
McKeen is set to appear Jan. 8 in Oxford County Superior Court.
