Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it, so here we go again.

When I was young, it was the law in many states that people of different racial backgrounds couldn’t marry. Proponents of those laws often quoted from the Bible to support their beliefs, and predicted dire consequences if the laws weren’t followed —  the end of marriage as was known then and the disruption of society at large.

Therefore, all the hoopla about gays getting married has a real familiar ring to it.

Knowing the history has a comforting feeling. I know that it is just a matter of time until justice is served, as it was for interracial marriages. Gay marriage will become a matter-of-fact thing.

Fifty years from now the whole debate will seem kind of goofy. “Momma, why couldn’t gay folks get married back then?”

So why don’t we just do it and vote “yes” on Question 1?

I mean, really.
