PORTLAND (AP) — A celebration of the life of Rodney Quinn, a former Democratic Party activist who served as Maine secretary of state for a decade, is scheduled for this weekend.
Quinn, who was 89, died Saturday in a hospice in Scarborough after suffering pneumonia.
Quinn was Maine’s secretary of state for five terms, beginning in 1979. He was instrumental in getting Democrats elected to the Legislature and securing their majorities in the 1980s and ’90s, state Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Windham, told the Portland Press Herald. Diamond succeeded Quinn.
A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, Quinn was married to Melba Quinn, who died Oct. 8 at age 90. The couple had four children.
A celebration of Quinn’s life is scheduled for Sunday at the First Parish Congregational Church in Gorham.
