Results of the sample of Lake Auburn water sent to the state laboratory of hygiene for analysis are as follows: The analysis shows the water to be in good condition to use for all domestic purposes. There is no evidence to point to contact with sewage wastes of any kind. There has been but slight change in this water since the time of the last analysis, and this change has been the natural one of increase in the mineral and vegetable content of the water, which is to be expected in the case of all normal surface waters at this season. In its present condition this water is a first-class one in every respect. H.D. Evans, director.

City clerks in Lewiston and Auburn predict relatively high turnouts for Tuesday’s election as voters go to the polls to decide city council and school committee races along with 13 assorted referendum questions, an $8.9 million bond issue to renovate the Androscoggin County Jail and a Lewiston city charter amendment. Auburn City Clerk Mary Lou Magno expects about 45 percent, or 5,800 of the city’s 13,024 voters. In Lewiston, Clerk Gerald P. Berube guesses that about 60 percent, or 15,600 of the 26,000 voters will vote and be counted by the city’s new electronic counting machines.
