SULLIVAN — A local woman was arrested Tuesday after her child allegedly brought pot brownies to school and distributed them to students.
An unidentified student brought marijuana — police confirmed it was in brownie form — to Mountain View Elementary School in Sullivan on Tuesday, according to a statement from RSU 24 Superintendent Suzanne Lukas.
Lukas said that after the school interviewed students, several were suspended in connection with the marijuana brownies, and that their parents had been notified. Lukas declined to offer any more information.
Police concluded the treats belonged to the brownie-bearing student’s mother, Amanda L. Hiser, 32, of Sullivan, according to Corey Bagley, supervisory special agent for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Hiser was charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug and possession of a hypodermic device, according to Hancock County Jail records. Information about how the hypodermic device charge came up was unavailable Wednesday. She was released Tuesday evening on $500 unsecured bail.
State police brought a drug-sniffing canine to the school and found no other drugs on campus, Lukas said.
“The school does its part to investigate on our end of things, and now we’ve handed it over to the state police,” Lukas said in a Wednesday interview.
