At the end of the summer swimming and sailing lessons at the Taylor Pond Yacht Club in Auburn, the students “swim across the pond.” The tradition was started by Swimming Instructor Vanessa Williamson 14 years ago and the kids look forward to the challenge of swimming half a mile in open water. To ensure it is safe, there are numerous boats accompanying them. After a boat ride back, swimmers have doughnuts.
