1922 – 2012
CANTON — Doris Cureton, 89, of Turner Street, Canton, and longtime resident of Rumford, passed away on Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Mary Hubbard and partner, Brad McKeen.
She was born in Rumford, Dec. 5, 1922, a daughter of Louis and Alice (Richard) McGrath.
Doris was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1941. She served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
She lived with her daughter, Donna Martin, for 10 years in Auburn. She was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Doris loved painting terra cotta pots, decorating and knitting scarves.
She also loved cooking for her family. One of Doris’ dreams was to visit Ireland, which she did in 2003 and 2005. She loved her dog, Maddie. Doris brought joy and happiness to everyone she met.
Surviving are her children, Donna Martin and partner, Tom Ames, of Auburn, Barbara Ferland and husband, Jerry, of Rumford, Joyce Beaudoin and husband, Mike, of Greene, James Cureton of Rumford, Mary Hubbard and partner, Brad McKeene, of Canton, and Steve Cureton of Rumford; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Samuel W. Cureton Jr.; a daughter, Faye Cureton; a brother, William McGrath; and four sisters, Elaine Foley, Susan, Jo and Linda.
