Democratic Rep. Teresea Hayes was re-elected Tuesday to her House District 94 seat by a 35-vote margin over Republican newcomer Timothy Turner.

An error in ballot reporting from the town of Paris incorrectly identified Republican newcomer Timothy Turner as winning the House District 94 race by seven votes late Tuesday and through much of Wednesday, but the town corrected its tally Wednesday, putting Hayes in the lead.

Turner, 49, of Buckfield campaigned on a pledge to increase enforcement of welfare fraud and address tax incentives for companies that create jobs.

Hayes, 54, also of Buckfield, who has served six years in the Legislature and is currently the House minority whip, campaigned on a pledge to focus policy discussions on efforts “specifically designed to help us move Maine forward,” to scrutinize welfare spending and to concentrate on greater energy efficiencies.

Hayes campaigned as a Clean Election candidate; Turner did not use Clean Election funds.
