Oxford Selectman Roger Jackson, 72, won the vacant House District 100 seat against Oxford Democratic Committee Chairman Colin O’Neill by a 2,563 to 1,751 vote.

They were vying for the seat vacated by Republican Rep. James Hamper.

Jackson, a small-business owner, campaigned on a promise to review and then repeal “unnecessary regulatory, environmental and other burdensome constraints placed on businesses,” and to support Gov. Paul LePage’s initiative on educational trade-related programs.

O’Neill, 23, who spent no money on his campaign, pledged to “encourage stable and cogent regulatory policy and, especially, a stable and reasonable revenue policy.” He also pledged to help redesign welfare programs with “tiered systems that actually encourage people to work their way to independence.”

Neither candidate used Clean Elections funds.
