LISBON — In a near-record turnout Tuesday, residents voted to dissolve the Water Department by a narrow vote of 2,247 to 2,212.

The department has been run by an elected Board of Water Commissioners since the early 1900s. The Water Department will now fall under the town’s general government.

In another close vote, townspeople voted 2,122 to 2,053 to change the elected Budget Advisory Board and replace it with a Finance Committee to be appointed by the Town Council.

In the District 2 Town Council race, Dillon Pesce defeated Tyler Golletti, 1,388-681 for a three-year term. In the only other race, Gregg Garrison won a three-year at-large seat on the council, defeating Eric Metivier 2,174 to 1,593.

Running unopposed were Dorothy Fitzgerald for Budget Advisory Board, 3,713 votes; Herbert Reed and Kathi Yergin for two seats on the School Committee, 2,134 and 2,620 votes, respectively; and Mark Lunt for Town Council District 1, 1,781 votes.

Election workers were still hand-counting 1,095 write-in ballots Wednesday morning. Town Clerk Twila Lycette said a total of 4,833 ballots were cast, which failed to break the record high of 5,022 ballots several years ago. Lisbon has 6,512 registered voters.
