AUBURN — Carole Berg, 78, died peacefully in Auburn on Nov. 6, with family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston, Feb. 22, 1934, the daughter of Elmer Crossley and Gertrude Lamey Crossley. Carole was educated in Lewiston schools and the Maine School of Commerce. In 1954, she married Erwin Berg, and they lived in Auburn, where they raised their family.

Carole’s five children remember her for creating a welcoming home where they loved to gather with school and neighborhood friends. She enjoyed entertaining and any celebration, especially the holidays. Carole had many happy times playing golf and bridge. She was well read, an accomplished knitter and fabulous cook.

For several years, Carole worked for friends who owned Marco’s Restaurant. She also volunteered at CMMC. When her children were grown, she worked for Androscoggin Savings Bank and later the Auburn School Department, where she retired in 1993. Since 1991, she spent the spring in Florida, and made many new friends.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Erwin Berg; along with three daughters, Paula Bouffard and her husband, Reggie, Patricia Berg and Susan Tartre and her husband, Charlie; two sons, Peter Berg and Jeane and Jon Berg and his wife, Jaime; Carole leaves six grandchildren, Laura Powers and her husband, Ricky, Kelsey Bouffard, Maria Burdick, Kyle Bouffard, Martin Tartre and Bennett Berg; Also surviving are her brother, Neil Crossley of Windham and her sister, Darlene Craw of Milpitas, Calif., as well as many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Clover Health Care and Androscoggin Hospice Care for the kind and attentive care they provided Carole.
