LEWISTON — A year after the body of Samantha Folsom was found inside a closet at an Oxford Street apartment complex, answers about the killing remain in short supply.

The 26-year-old, formerly of Greene, was found dead Nov. 9, 2011, when her parents went to see her at her apartment at Place Ste. Marie.

The killing eventually was declared a homicide and Maine State Police took over the investigation. There is said to be a suspect in the killing, but as of Friday, the one-year-mark,  no arrest had been made.

Folsom had been living in her apartment at Ste. Place Marie for a year, friends said. She had a husband and a 3-year-old son who did not live with her.

Folsom was a sociable woman, friends said, adventurous and upbeat. She had been a cheerleader at Leavitt Area High School in Turner. She liked to party and stayed in close contact with her buddies.

Then, around Nov. 3, Folsom went quiet. On that morning, she posted an update on her Facebook page. She had broken up with her boyfriend but did not seem overly depressed about it.

“Well, surprise, surprise,” Folsom wrote in her final Facebook status, posted shortly after midnight Nov. 3. “Wasn’t good enough for him … Huh … His loss?”

Folsom’s parents told police they normally heard from their daughter on a regular basis. But for several days, there was nothing. When they went to Place Ste. Marie to check on her, they found her dead.

Sources have said Folsom’s body was stuffed into a closet and covered by a tarp, although police haven’t confirmed those reports.

Neighbors said they heard nothing out of the ordinary in the days leading up to the discovery of Folsom’s body. No commotion from her apartment. To friends and neighbors, it appeared Folsom was simply there one day, gone the next.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call Lewiston police or Maine State Police.
