SUMNER — Following a 30-minute closed session Tuesday night, two of the three selectmen appointed Robert Stewart as the new emergency management director.
Town Clerk Susan Runes said Selectmen Mary Ann Haxton and Walter Litchfield Jr. interviewed the Stewart and in an open session appointed him to the $900 per year position. Stewart is also chief of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department.
Selectman Kelly Stewart recused herself because she is Stewart’s wife.
The position has been open since this past summer when Tom Standard resigned.
During the public input session of board meeting, Runes said concerns were voiced by Standard about hiring an attorney to deal with a personnel matter, by Steve Nowak about fill dumped at the foot of his driveway, and a question about who has authority over the Abbott Pond Road.
Code Enforcement Officer Sidney Abbott reported that notifications of intent to harvest trees were filed by William and Lydia Kennard and Wallace Fengler.
