The building at North Auburn known as the Grange Hall owned by the City of Auburn and occupied on the ground floor by Frank J. Austin as a general store and by the North Auburn Grange on the upper floor was burned to the ground at an early hour Sunday morning. The loss is estimated at $5,000. Aid was summoned from Auburn, but the fire was under control before a crew started and they did not make the trip. The origin of the fire cannot be learned and the hall was in use up to midnight, there being a meeting of the Grange.

Auburn’s City Councilors, in the company of the city solicitor and engineer, today toured the portion of Center Street which is slated to be rebuilt. While acting as a special board of appraisers, they heard arguments from those property owners who feel they will sustain damages from the construction project. While some did, indeed, voice their complaints, one alleged property owner was particularly silent. As a matter of fact, if such a man is still living, he may not know he owns land in Auburn. A tract of land adjacent to land owned by the Farm Mutual Insurance Co. is listed as the property of Merle Bailey. Efforts to locate the man have been unsuccessful and it is also indicated that someone else has been paying taxes on the property.
