SOUTH PARIS — Shirley Mason Moore, 90, died on Nov. 14, at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris.
She was born on Aug. 31, 1922 in Marshall, Texas, to Lucile Cutrer and James G. Mason. She attended St. Mary’s Academy, next door to her home, and excelled at her studies. At age 16, she went to St. Joseph College of Nursing in Fort Worth, Texas, where she became an R.N. in 1940 at age 18.
In 1942 she married Robert E. Moore and moved to New Philadelphia, Ohio, where she lived and worked as a housewife and mother. Her son, Robert E. Moore Jr. and daughter-in-law, Judy Meese Moore, reside in New Philadelphia and owned an accounting firm in Dover, Ohio. In 1956, Shirley and Bob adopted a daughter. Today, Lisa Moore and son-in-law, Lee Margolin, live and work in Harrison.
Shirley was a gifted bridge player and word-puzzle solver. She crocheted dozens of beautiful afghans for family, friends and charities. She baked the best pies, especially lemon meringue and banana cream.
Shirley is survived by two brothers, Perry Mason of Beaumont, Texas and Wayne Mason of Fort Worth, Texas; and a sister, Sylvia Kerestine of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Shelley Moore of Goshen, Ind., Doug Moore of Canton, Ohio, Bryan Moore of Columbus, Ohio, Tony Durso of Boston, Mass. and Sam Margolin of Harrison.
She is predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Norma and Corrine; and her husband, Bob, in 1979.
Shirley moved to Maine in November 2009. Her family is grateful to the staff of Park Village in Dover, Ohio, and most recently to the staff of Market Square Health Care Center, for their exceptional service and loving care.
