FARMINGTON — The Farmington Planning Board will review applications for a used car dealership and a telecommunications tower when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the Town Office.
After a recent zoning change from residential to residential light commercial in West Farmington, Tim Bowen is planning to open a used car dealership on the corner of Marvel Street and Town Farm Road.
After 25 years in car sales at Hight Chevrolet, Bowen said some of his former customers continued calling him after he left. He made referrals but then decided to take care of his old customers and some new ones under his own new business, Bowen Enterprises at 111 Marvel St.
Working from a garage already on the lot, Bowen says he’ll be more of an auto broker. When someone’s looking for a certain vehicle, he’ll help them find it.
He doesn’t plan to stockpile a lot of cars but may use part of the lot on the corner of the two streets for a parking lot.
Although the board will review his application Monday, Bowen has not decided when he’ll open the business, he said Friday.
The board will also review an application from Global Towers for construction of a 180-foot wireless telecommunications tower at 170 Hovey Road.
The site, on the property of David Hobert, was previously approved by the town board. Due to the economy and a lack of customers, the tower was never constructed, according to the site-review application.
Now the applicant, Global Towers, is applying along with Northeast Wireless Network, an AT&T affiliate, with the intention to start construction of the tower within 30 days after approval of the plan.
The tower is capable of holding up to six wireless companies.
