Library seeks teen volunteers

LEWISTON — The Auburn Public Library is starting a new VolunTEENs program, an ongoing opportunity for teens in grades 7-12 (ages 13-18) to get involved at the library. VolunTEENs can help plan and run library events, create displays, review books, organize the collection and even offer computer help or tutoring.

Senior cribbage league winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Nov. 15 were: first, Don Haley and Ron Hynes; second, Doris Gosselin and Roger Chambers; fourth, Roberta Greenlaw and Sandy Verrill; fifth, Ike LeCompte two player table.

Next game will be played at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21. Thursday’s regularly scheduled game will be played Wednesday. The Armory will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

Danville Grange potluck supper

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet for a potluck supper at the hall on Friday, Nov. 23, at 6 p.m. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

In lieu of a program, there will be bingo after the meeting. Members are reminded to bring prizes. All grange members and guests are welcome.

Historical group meets Nov. 27

HEBRON — Speakers will discuss Medicare, Social Security and wills at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Hebron Historical Society meeting at the town office. The public is invited.

Duct tape art at Auburn library

AUBURN — Teen Takeover: Duct Tape Art will run from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Teens grades 7-12 are invited to the Teen Space at library to get creative with duct tape. Wallets, bags, phone covers, gift tags – there’s no limit to what can be made with duct tape. History Barn Open House

NEW GLOUCESTER — The next monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. The History Barn is located behind the NG Town Hall, 385 Intervale Road , Route 231. Permanent and temporary exhibits about local history are on display. Admission is free.

Yuletide Harp Concert

AUBURN — There will be a Yuletide Harp Concert with Castlebay and The Auburn Harp Circle on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 78 Pleasant St.

Active parenting program planned

LEWISTON — Advocates for Children will host the program Active Parenting Now from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, at 57 Birch St.

The program will provide parents of children ages 5-12 with the skills needed to develop courage, responsibility and self-esteem in their children.

The cost is $30 per person. Nancy Reynolds will facilitate the class.

Fortier Chapter meets Dec. 3

LEWISTON — Members of Royal Arcanum Chap. 52 (Association Canado-Americaine) will gather at their monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Lewiston Armory, 195 Central Ave. Note the change of venue and be on time, due to the security of the building. Following the meeting members will have a social hour with snacks.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, at noon members will be attending the annual Christmas Banquet at Rolandeau’s Restaurant in Auburn. Gus Turbide will entertain with seasonal organ music.

‘Fighting Fatigue’ workshop set

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers targeting cancer-related fatigue. “Fighting Fatigue” will take place Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common side effects of cancer and its treatments. Although it may seem counterintuitive, decreased physical activity, which may be the result of illness or of treatment, can also lead to tiredness and lack of energy. Scientists have found that even healthy athletes forced to spend extended periods in bed or sitting in chairs develop feelings of anxiety, depression, weakness, fatigue and nausea.

Central Maine Medical Center Health and Fitness Center Supervisor Nate Littlefield will discuss tips and techniques for safely becoming more active, which can decrease the feeling of fatigue and increase energy.
