WILTON — A rock rake owned by the town of Wilton was taken from Kineowatha Park about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday. 

Police believe it may have been dropped off somewhere between the park and the golf course on the Weld Road (Route 156) and are asking residents along High Street and Route 156 to call if they find it on their property, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.

“It was taken in broad daylight,” she said.

Recreation Director Frank Donald was sitting in his office Tuesday morning when he spotted a small purple truck go by with a rock rake in the back.

Thinking it looked like the town’s rake, he jumped into his truck and followed the purple truck. He lost sight of the truck when it turned from High Street on to the Weld Road, Gould said.

It was driven by a male wearing a white jacket.

Police believe the driver realized he was seen and may have dropped it off on someone’s property along the way. 

They did stop a purple truck near the golf course. There was no rake. They are still investigating, she said.

“It would be very expensive for the town to replace the rake. A new rake would cost several thousands,” she said.
