(Perryville Cash Market, 174 Turner St., Auburn, ran the following Thanksgiving groceries ad): A line of delicacies and necessities which ought to satisfy the most epicurean tastes. The majestic turkey, whose imposing presence lends dignity to the table. Plump chickens and sedate fowl, juicy beef roast of substantial character, pork roasts cut from medium weight and freshly slaughtered animals, thoroughly inspected and with the most rigid requirements of the Pure Food Law.
Doyle’s, 38 Lisbon St., published these lyrics for a Thanksgiving song: “My Turkey, ’tis of thee. Sweet bird of cranberry, Of thee I sing. I love thy breasts and wings, Thy legs and other things, Thy great and good stuffings, Thy flavorings. Let gobbles swell the breeze. And ring from all the trees, Sweet turkey’s song. Let all mankind awake; Let women freely bake; Let all who can partake, The feast prolong.”

50 years ago, 1962
Several groups of young people in the Twin Cities are bringing a note of cheer into the lives of local needy families. One of the most generous seasonal gestures is presentation of food baskets to 30 families by the Dorcas Society of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Auburn. Other groups making similar gifts were the Camera Club of Webster Junior High School, whose members earned the money through car washing projects and a school dance; Explorer Scout Post 111 of the Elm Street Universalist Church; and Girl Scout Troop 4 of Lewiston, which presented a basket to Holy Family parish for distribution.

25 years ago, 1987
Officials at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church hope to announce the names of the new owners of the Central Maine Youth Center to parishioners next weekend. The parish is considering at least two proposals for the 29-year-old hockey rink which have been made public.
